Patcom is a healthcare training marketplace connecting Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) trainers with trainees. Because this is medical-adjacent training, trust signals and structured workflows matter more than “generic marketplace” functionality—credentialing, approvals, and policy enforcement need to be built into the product so the team doesn’t become the bottleneck.

Problem: Patcom needed to scale a training marketplace without turning into a manual operations company. Key issues included:

• Trust gap: trainees needed verified credentials before booking
• Operational drag: approvals, policy exceptions, and trainer vetting were manual
• Monetization complexity: packages, discounts, and category-based pricing needed to work end-to-end
• Marketplace governance: commission rules and approval workflows needed to be enforceable without engineering involvement

Solution: Horizon Labs implemented a Sharetribe marketplace foundation and built the “trust + booking + admin policy” systems required for this workflow:

• Multi-tier user roles: Trainer / Trainee / Admin
• Certification verification workflow with admin approval
• Advanced booking: package bookings, free courses, discounts
• Rewards system (earn/redeem points) to drive repeat usage
• Commission management and pricing policy controls by category/training type
• Admin tooling to reduce back-and-forth and enforce rules consistently

• Reduced manual admin workload by turning approvals and policies into product features
• Increased marketplace trust and conversion by verifying trainer credentials
