Bloom is a fintech app for employee investing (think “Robinhood for payroll” with gamified lessons).

Problem: Bloom wanted to offer paper trading (simulated stock trading) so users could practice without real money. They needed quick integration of market data and trading APIs.

Solution: Horizon Labs built the paper trading feature. Key steps:

Integrated Alpaca’s paper-trading API into Bloom’s backend.
Developed a trade simulation interface (front end & backend) allowing users to buy/sell virtual shares.
Ensured users’ virtual portfolios were updated in real time with market data.

Outcome: The feature was delivered in approximately 2 months. Teen users could trade in a risk-free environment, greatly enhancing product engagement. The groundwork we laid also opened the door for future Alpaca collaboration.

Impact: Users now have a safe sandbox for investing. Bloom’s CTO reports this accelerated new-user growth. Bloom’s co-founder commended HL for swift, high-quality delivery.
